EuroPVM/MPI 2004
11th European PVM/MPI Users' Group Meeting
in conjunction with DAPSYS'04
Budapest, Hungary
September 19-22, 2004
PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) and MPI (Message Passing Interface) are
the most frequently used tools for parallel programming according to
the message-passing paradigm. The meeting is dedicated to the latest
developments of PVM and MPI and their applications.
This is the 11th EuroPVM/MPI meeting of the series, previous ones
being held at
1994: University of Rome, Italy
1995: ENS Lyon, France
1996: TU Muenchen, Germany
1997: Institute of Computer Science & ACC CYFRONET, Krakow, Poland
1998: University of Liverpool, United Kingdom
1999: Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain
2000: Balatonfuered, Lake Balaton, Hungary
2001: Santorini Island, Greece
2002: Joh. Kepler University Linz, Austria
2003: Venice, Italy
Proceedings have been published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series and are available as follows :
Dieter Kranzlmüller, Peter Kacsuk, Jack Dongarra (Eds.),
"Recent Advances in Parallel Virtual Machine and Message Passing Interface",
Proc. 11th European PVM/MPI Users' Group Meeting, Springer Verlag, LNCS, Vol. 3241, Budapest, Hungary,
ISBN: 3-540-23163-3(Sept. 2004).
The 11th European PVM/MPI Users’ Group conference will be a forum
for the users and developers of PVM, MPI, and other message-passing
programming environments. They will have the opportunity to meet
each other, share ideas and experiences, and meet members of the
PVM and MPI teams. Main topics of the meeting will be
- Algorithms using the message-passing paradigm
- Applications in science and engineering (based on message-passing)
- Latest extensions and improvements to PVM and MPI
- PVM/MPI in clusters and grid environments
- Performance evaluation of PVM and MPI
- Tools and environments for PVM and MPI
- PVM/MPI implementation issues and extensions
- Novel message-passing paradigms for grids and P2P
The 11th EuroPVM/MPI conference will be jointly organized with the
5th Austrian-Hungarian Workshop on Distributed and Parallel Systems
(DAPSYS) in Budapest, Hungary. Participants of the two events will
share invited talks, tutorials, vendor sessions, and social events,
while contributed paper presentations will go on in separate tracks
in parallel.
While EuroPVM/MPI is dedicated to the latest developments of PVM and
MPI,
DAPSYS is expected to be a major event to discuss general aspects of
parallel and distributed systems. In this way the two events are
complement
to each other and participants of the 11th EuroPVM/MPI conference can
benefit from the joint organization of the two events.

CONFERENCE VENUE:
The conference is organized in the capitol city of Hungary,
Budapest, which actually consists of two parts, Buda and Pest,
separated by the Danube River. Each side is unique in itself
but complementary to the other. To the city's west is hilly
Buda vaunting an enchanting Historic District at its heart.
To the east is the vast and relatively flat Pest, imbued
with an historic pride rooted in trade and commerce.
To truly experience Buda is to walk the historic streets.
The city's Medieval, Baroque and Classical flourishes, the
various monuments - damaged during World War II - have been
meticulously restored. Pest, thanks to its level terrain
and spacious area, is home to numerous museums that house
the nation's greatest art and historical collections. Add
to this Pest's somewhat cutting edge interest in the arts,
and you have an exciting and oh, so contemporary, city -
a superb complement to her more old fashioned partner Buda,
just across the Danube.
