One of the main research lines at LPDS is Grid portal technology. The aim is to provide efficient software development tools and high-level services together with customizable scientific gateways based on workflows (P-GRADE Grid Portal, gUSE/WS-PGRADE) for harvesting the most wide-spread grid infrastructures based on gLite, Globus, BOINC.
The WS-PGRADE Grid Portal allows users to create and maintain workflows through an intuitive user interface.
WS-PGRADE is strongly connected with the gUSE (grid User Support Environment), which is a grid virtualization environment providing a scalable set of high-level Grid and Cloud services by which interoperation between Grids and user communities can be achieved. Incorporating a more flexible workflow concept and enabling its distribution on clusters and different Grid sites, gUSE is aimed to extend the objectives and features of WS-P-GRADE Portal. gUSE is an open source software that can be downloaded from SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guse/ .
gUSE is being used by several EC funded FP7 projects, such as SCI-BUS, SHIWA, EDGI.
In our gUSE Development Roadmap we have defined tasks in order to improve functionality and usability. Many of these issues are based on feature requests and user feedbacks. For smaller feautres that can be implemented in about 3 months we are opening a call for student developers.

- Project: GUI for mobile access for WS-PGRADE
Brief explanation: The task is to develop a preferably Android based GUI to access WS-PGRADE in order to easily submit jobs/workflows from a mobile device and to easily monitor the job/workflow execution.
Expected results: WS-PGRADE users will be able to initiate job/workflow submission from a mobile device and to easily monitor the job/workflow execution via the mobile device.
Knowledge Prerequisite: Java, experience in developing in Android environment
Mentor: Miklos Kozlovszky
- Project: Improving functionality of statistics portlet
Brief explanation: The current version of the portal lacks the abilitiy to share metrics about the system. The task is to further develop the statistics portlet of WS-PGRADE with defining new metrics.
Expected results: WS-PGRADE will provide enhanced statistics even for workflows instances. It will extend the statistics information with timestamps and will provide new type of workflow instance identifiers for the user.
Knowledge Prerequisite: Java, quality management oriented personality
Mentor: Miklos Kozlovszky
- Project: Extending functionality of graph editor for WS-PGRADE
Brief explanation: The task is to extend the toolset of the workflow graph editor (ie. canvas) with more advanced elements to simplify job creation of scientific users.
Expected results: WS-PGRADE will provide a more user-friendly graph editor for scientific users. The extended functionality will include interactive workflow construction interface, simplifying workflow creation.
Knowledge Prerequisite: Java, graphical designer orientation
